How it started

Years ago I saw someone on social media tufting and I immediately thought: "I can do this too!" Many people laughed at it, but I felt something. When I eventually received a workshop as a gift and received compliments about my work, I became curious. How exactly does this work?

I soon understood: I want to do this differently.

The seed was planted. I didn't just want to tuft myself, I wanted others to experience how cool it is. Joey found his form, now you can.

Why we do what we do

At WatMatjeNou it's not just about a fun afternoon - it's about surprising yourself. You don't have to be an artist (or feel creative) to make something cool here. We believe that everyone can be creative, as long as you are given the space to discover.

Whether you come in with two left hands or a Pinterest board full of ideas, you are welcome.
We guide you step by step in making your own unique mat. Because how often do you really take the time to make something with your hands, for yourself?

WatMatjeNou was created out of love for the process, the peace it brings and the fun of creating something together.

Tufting in the heart of Rotterdam? Yes please.

You will find Matje in an old school building, a stone's throw from the Witte de Withstraat – the place for art, culture, food and a good drink.

Many of our customers combine the workshop with something fun in the area. After tufting, you often see them having a drink, going out for dinner, or even going into town for a party. Some stay the night in Rotterdam to make it a complete outing.

In short: at Matje your day starts with creativity and often ends in good vibes – completely Rotterdam style.
